Brad became involved in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) in 1982. It was in that year he attended a "war" (essentially an excuse for a multi-day camping event) at the urging of some college friends. He joined a month later. Within an SCA context, he goes by the name Johannes Spieß von Hochwald. (The second name can be written as “Spiess.”)
Pam became involved in 1990 when she met the love of her life at a Yuletide revel. In an SCA context, she goes by the name Pamela Hopwood of Lancashire.
Both of us have always (at least, during the time we have been members of the SCA) lived in the “kingdom” known as Caid. Johannes has been active in the barony of Altavia and both Johannes and Pamela have lived in Lyondemere, in which we have both held baronial offices.
Johannes danced with the dance group Lyon & Unicorn almost as long as he was in the SCA (even when he lived in Altavia). In the late 1980's (the date has been lost in the mists of time) he was invited to become a member of that group. They probably recognized his great dancing skills (okay, so they probably just needed a guy to round out their numbers) and has been dancing since.
We haven't done much in the SCA since the early 2000's as our family interests move into other areas. However, we still hold a fondness for our time in this organization. Maybe our interests will again turn to the SCA at some future time.
Now, because we know you're just dying to see them, we've included some pictures. All of them are of our friends within the SCA or of Pamela and Johannes. (Not that we're on an ego trip or something.) We haven't included all of our friends here, because we don't have usable, SCA-context pictures of many of them. Everyone in these pictures is referenced by their SCA name, sans titles.
