Black Hills Vacation 2002

June/July 2002

Since Brad's parents live 1500 miles away, we don't see them very often, and we try to get back home every year or two. Thus the Black Hills has become a common vacation destination for us. This was not the kids' first time in the hills, they had been there a couple of years before when we had an unusual cold snap (-25° F) over Christmas.

Animals are everywhere. These ducks were pets of our neighbors across the street.

There are often deer in the backyard. Along with the turkeys, they enjoy the feed that is available to them.

The 1880 Train is a local tourist attraction and runs several times a day during the summer. Its whistle (used when crossing roads) can be heard for miles, and it crosses the road by our place, less than a mile away in one direction, and just over a mile in the other.

What is a summer in the hills, without spending a little time barefoot in the creek?
